This knife has been one of the legendary Marttiini models for decades.
In the 1970s almost every household in Finland had the Handy knife. It was a general purpose knife used for peeling potatoes as well as carving wood.
The shortish blade of this knife is practical for jobs that require precision. In this updated model the traditional blade design is combined with a beautiful curly birch handle. The New Handy comes with a stylish leather sheath.
Here are the specs of the New Handy:
Blade length: 3 inches
Overall length: 7-1/2 inches
Handle: Curly birch, waxed. The traditional material used for Finnish knife handles is curly birch. The material comes from the curly birch belt in Central Finland. Curly birch is an excellent material for a knife handle, because it's durable and fair. This beautifully patterned curly birch is available on the market in limited amounts, making the price notably higher than regular birch.
Steel: This stainless steel blade remains sharp for long. Chromium makes up 13% of the steel mixture and the hardness of the mixture is 53-54 Rockwell units (HRC). A diamond sharpener is recommended for sharpening chromium steel.
Leather sheath: The leather sheaths of Marttiini knives are mostly handmade with either vegetable or chrome tanned oxhide.
